Keeping it real

I've been thinking about writing this post for quite some time now...but life just keeps getting in the way.  But that's sort of the thing.  I used to write about my life on this blog.  I mean, I've always posted about my art too, but I used to include more...me, I guess, too.  But then I got this thing in my head that I just *had* to be on a design team, and in my quest to do so, I read a blog post somewhere about "how to get accepted on a design team."  And in that post, I read that basically, your blog should only contain posts about your art.  Not family, not kids...basically, not real life - just your art projects.  So I quit blogging about those things.  I started a separate blog, with the idea that I could blog about family and life there...except I didn't.

A year has gone by now.  I was accepted to a design team.  I did my time.  I quit the design team.  I no longer have the "design team bug."  I really just want to do my own art, to learn as much as I possibly can as an artist, to grow, to take classes, to develop my own style.  I do still write product reviews on a GREAT blog - Craft Test Dummies - and love what I do there.  But here?  I miss being real.  I miss being authentic.  Because while I *am* an artist, I am also a mom, and a wife, and a friend, and a child of God.  And I don't care what anyone else says...this is MY blog, and I'm done editing myself for the sake of being accepted by some "unknown" out in the blogosphere!

I've started art journaling.  It's helping me a lot, because reality is that I'm going through some tough stuff right now.  Some of that "makes your stomach hurt just thinking about it" stuff.  The kind of stuff that demands a LOT of praying, a LOT of reflection, a LOT of trust in God's almighty plan.

And I'm dealing with a LOT of physical pain.  Everyday, severe, debilitating pain.  The kind that sometimes makes me want to just crawl into a hole and hide.  Rheumatoid arthritis is no joke, and I've spent the last several months working my way through a lot of anger and grief and frustration in trying to accept this new life.

Art has been my outlet, my source of expression for the angst inside.  Besides my bible, it's the one place I feel at home, the place I am soothed and comforted.  Art stretches me in new ways all the time, and I see God's beauty all the time.  I find myself thanking God daily for this gift of art, and I worry sometimes when my pain is too great to allow me to do any art.  I wonder when the day will come that I won't be able to make art anymore, and what I will do then.

And through everything, I am constantly striving to find the blessings.  Because I know, without a doubt, that I am SO blessed.  I want to live a life filled with gratitude, no matter what.  I want to drown out the "noise" and just be quiet when things become overwhelming...so that I can hear the Truth.

So I'm still here.  I'm still making art.  And I'll try to post a little more often.  But I'll most definitely be more authentic from here on out.

We interrupt our regularly scheduled programming...

I'm so sorry I've been absent lately.  I just wanted to pop in and let you all know that I'm still alive!  I am in the midst of taking not one, but TWO online classes right now - both of which are COMPLETELY AWESOME - but which are consuming ALL of my time...leaving me little time for blogging!!

However, you can catch me on Fridays (sometimes it's Thursday) over at Craft Test Dummies, and every so often over at Crafts Unleashed, in the meantime.  Here's a preview of what I'll be posting this Friday on Craft Test Dummies...

And I *highly* encourage you to check out both of the classes I am taking right now!!  The first is one by Melody Ross and Brave Girls Club, called Soul Restoration I.  It is already in Week 4, of the 8 week class, but they are keeping registration open through May 1, and are keeping the classroom open for an extra 4 weeks after the 8 weeks are over to give late starters a chance to finish the class material.  It is truly a wonderful class and I cannot say enough positive things about it!  Watch Melody's video intro HERE.

The second class is the She Art Workshop by Christy Tomlinson, and I just started it a couple days ago...but I am already LOVING it!!  I was only introduced to Christy's work in the last couple months, but have admired her from the beginning and had hoped to one day be able to take her workshops.  When the opportunity presented itself, I couldn't pass it up!!  I am learning so much!

I am definitely being bombarded with art, art, art right now...but it's been so good for me.  It's been refreshing and rejuvenating...challenging and stretching...faith-building and growing.  I've been reminded of things that I'd forgotten, urged to let go of things I'd been holding on to that I needed to let go of, and have had my eyes opened to new things altogether.  (And I'm talking both literally and spiritually.)  I needed this break right now, just me and God and some art.  (If only I didn't have all these other responsibilities...right?)

So...I'll be back soon, I promise!  With all kinds of new and fun ideas to share!  In the meantime...maybe I'll see you over at Brave Girls Club or in the She Art workshop!!

I want to live in her studio!

I know I have a wonderful crafty studio.  I do.  But sometimes I look at it and think, "This really is just a little TOO clean and neat and white and organized for me."  Seriously.  Like...it needs to be grunged up and definitely needs more flair...but that's a whole project for another day.  Today...I'm laying on the couch, head pounding, throat raw, coughing, sniffling...doing that "couch mommy-ing" thing where you just try to keep all the kids from killing each other until hubby gets home.  And feeling so thankful that he has 3 day weekends every weekend!

Anyway, as I was saying...my studio...now THIS studio...this studio is one I just want to hop right into.  Seriously.  The pictures just call out to me.  See that row of jars in the background, on the little shelf?  (You might have to click to zoom the photo to really see them well.)  They look like they are filled with wonderful little bits and baubles...scrabble tiles, bingo markers, and who knows what other goodies are hidden within...but I would LOVE to see!!  And PLAY!!  Look at all those beautiful charms she's made for the All Things Tim charm swap!!  Gorgeous!!

And right now, Barbara is having an awesome giveaway, including some fantastic Tim stuff, among other goodies...even some mystery goodies, to celebrate her one-year blogoversary!!!  All you need to do is click that link to get the details.

Crafting With the Stars!!

I keep laughing at the name...I've never really gotten into "Dancing with the Stars," but hey...crafting?  Just say the word and I'm there!!

So, I've entered my JOY wall hanging from my December guest design team assignment into this "Crafting With the Stars" contest over at Sew Dang Cute.  PLEASE, won't you go over and check out my project there?  Right now mine is in the 17th row, on the far right.  The number of times it is viewed just MIGHT have something to do with who gets through on the first round!!  The first round lasts until January 15...

New blog name!!

Well, friends, if you've been reading along, you know that "Party of Five" was no longer a good fit for me...as my family has now grown by one precious little boy.    AND, I have decided that I'm going to pretty much focus THIS blog on my crafty endeavors, and do my family blogging on my new blog - http://sixbygrace.blogspot.com.  So...I've been brainstorming for several weeks, trying to come up with some sort of clever new name for this blog, and I'm telling ya - nothing was coming to me!!

I was talking on the phone with a new friend a couple nights ago, and we were mulling around ideas surrounding the idea of "distress," since I love distress ink, distressing paper, distressed projects...etc.  And I did list out several ideas along those lines.

But then, this morning, it just hit me.  I was thinking about what all my friends call me.  Seriously.  All of them.  When they introduce me to their moms, or their husbands, or their friends who I've never met before...it's ALWAYS, "This is my crafty friend Jen."  My crafty friend Jen.  Hmm....

And thus, my new blog name.  I know - a really clever name, eh?  But I'll be the first to admit, coming up with clever names just isn't my strong suit.  And hey - how hard will it be to remember "My Crafty Friend Jen?"  ;)  I think we may have stumbled on to something here!!

In other news - I still owe a couple of you some goodies - I haven't forgotten about you, I promise!!  They are just buried in the disaster that is my studio right now.  That's on tomorrow's list of things to do!

And check back this week - I'll be posting my final project as a guest design team member for the Paper Trail team - and if I do say so myself, it turned out SUPER cute!!  You'll definitely want to come back to check it out on Thursday!!

My big news!

Okay, so I mentioned a couple posts ago that I was going to have some SUPER DUPER exciting news to share with you all.  And I DO.  In fact, this news is SO exciting, that I now need...

a

new

blog

name.

Because

Party of FIVE

no longer describes my family!!!

We are now SIX.  And I don't mean that I'm pregnant (that would be pretty darn amazing in and of itself, seeing as how I had a hysterectomy earlier this year - I mean, that would probably get me on some kind of talk show, right?!).  I mean, literally, we have a fresh, new baby boy in our home!   It's SUPER exciting and crazy fun, and while I can't share all of the exact details, you CAN read more about it on my NEW family blog at Six by Grace.

In the meantime, I need a new name HERE.  But I'm drawing a blank.  Party of Six just doesn't sound...right. It falls flat on my ears.  I need something more creative.  So...help me out.  Throw some new creative names out at me!!

And...that's not ALL of the news!

I get to let you in on two additional bits of crafty excitement!!

First, I've been asked to be a Guest Designer for the month of December over at The (Paper) Trail Makers Challenge Blog!!  I am super excited about this opportunity to work with Karen and the rest of the team over there!  Check out her store, The Paper Trail, and the awesome kit club she has available (and for an awesome price, too!).  The November kit looks GORGEOUS - and I cannot wait to see what's in store for the December kit!!  Make sure you come on over to the blog and join in on the challenges - even if you don't purchase the kit - and enter for a chance to win some great prizes!!

Second, I have been invited to join (and accepted!) the design team for Consumer Crafts/Crafts Unleashed!!!       I am incredibly excited about this new adventure, which is also to begin in December.  If you've never checked out Crafts Unleashed, you are in for a treat!  Whether you need inspiration for a project, want to find a review on the latest crafty tools, or want to learn how to use the tools you've already got, Crafts Unleashed is the place to be!  And if you've never shopped at Consumer Crafts - you have been spending too much!!!  I am constantly checking prices of products against theirs, and am always pleasantly surprised by their lower prices.  Make sure you sign up to follow them on Facebook and Twitter, as well - because they are always running specials, especially on shipping!

So as you prepare to delve into your holiday projects this year, I hope you'll find some great inspiration, both here, and at these great sites!!

And don't forget - leave me a comment with some suggestions for a new name!!!  :)

Works in Progress

I've been feeling bad since Tuesday that I haven't had any finished projects to show you, but it's because I have SO many things on my plate right now...I feel like my "to do" list just keeps growing, and I have multiple projects in the works.  Just to give you an idea of some of what my "to do" list looks like...

  • Custom-ordered nursing cover
  • Custom-ordered doll slings (2)
  • Custom-ordered painted onesie and matching older girl t-shirts (2)
  • Custom ordered baby monogrammed and fabric-photo gift set
  • Custom-ordered canvas painting
  • Custom-ordered children's art aprons (4)
  • CCC #19 (due by Sunday)
  • Finish photos and writing tutorial for the Art-Full Horizons Jolly Jumpstart blog hop
  • November Monthly Mailer for All Things Tim Yahoo Group
  • Christmas pennant banner swap for All Things Tim Yahoo Group (11 pennants)
Mind you, those are just my crafty to-do list items - never mind all of my homeschooling obligations, bible study, household, wifely, and parenting obligations (all of which come first, of course!).

Additionally, my sister Karen is hosting a Christmas boutique in her home (New Hampshire) on November 20, so I'm supposed to be making some things to send to her (more of the paper and altered-art variety, as she'll cover the sewing/fabric side) to sell.  I've gotten lots of new goodies in - some Tim Holtz stamps, Alterations dies and embossing folders, and fun Glimmer Mists - to play with and create lots of fun decorations with (as well as those gorgeous music papers I posted last week...wouldn't YOU love to get your hands on something special made with those?!).  Finally, our little business, Ciao Sorella, is participating in a Thanksgiving weekend online boutique, during which we'll be offering FREE SHIPPING the entire weekend (starting Black Friday - more info on this to come)...so I need to be making things to stock the store!

Whew!  Deep breath!  All of this...and I'm really hoping - crossing my fingers, really - to earn a spot on my very first design team soon!!  I would love to take my crafting to the next level, and I think this is the way to do it.  But I am determined NOT to let any of this to take the joy out of crafting for me...right now, I am LOVING all of the creative endeavors I am undertaking, and I will not let anything change that.  Otherwise, it has lost its purpose in my life, as far as I am concerned.

Anyway...here are a few pics of some things I've been working on (PLEASE forgive the quality of the pics...they are mostly cell phone pics, and my cell phone - NOT an Iphone by any stretch of the imagination - does NOT take good pics!).

Can you say ROSETTES?!

How cool is this freezer-paper butterfly surrounded by homemade glimmer mist?!

Okay, I promise there will be COMPLETED projects very soon!!  And make SURE you come by on Monday for the Art-full Horizons Jolly Jumpstart blog hop - lots of talented artists will be posting great holiday ideas, tutorials, and projects to get your creative juices flowing so YOU can start getting ready for the holidays!

Playing with Photoshop

Every now and then, I get the itch to try to make my photos look better.  I mean, ultimately, I need a better camera...there's only SO much I can do with the photos taken with the point-and-shoot I have...but even so, I do like to play with actions and brushes in Photoshop.  That said, I am a TOTAL beginner (and have the distinct feeling that I always will be!) when it comes to Photoshop...so fiddling around with it is all I ever get around to doing, and even that seems to take hours at a time.  I get lost in jumping from website to website, downloading free actions and brushes and beautiful textures, and then loading them into PS, and then I try to figure out just what to actually DO with them!!  LOL

Part of what has stirred this current bout of PS urge is that I feel like the photos on my blog NEED something around them...like they are too boring just as they are.  They need some sort of frame or border...but not just some plain straight-edge border like Blogger wants to offer me, of course.  So I've gone off in search of the impossible dream, apparently...trying to make Blogger do something it doesn't want to do, once again.  I love the way Tim Holtz's photos on his blog have that unique grungy-looking frame around them - but of course they would - I mean, he IS Tim Holtz, after all.  Anyway, so far, I haven't found anyone who has told me it is possible to make Blogger do this to all of my photos - only that I can create such a frame in Photoshop, then apply it to each of my photos before uploading them to my blog.

Oh goodie!  That's JUST what I wanted to hear.  Since, you know, I upload like a bazillion photos to my blog.  And especially since I edit my photos in Picasa, which would require me to edit them in Picasa, then open Photoshop to put the frame on them, then save them, then go BACK into Picasa - because I actually email my photos from Picasa to my blog - MUCH easier to post that way than trying to upload them 4 at a time while doing an actual post.  Sigh.  And here, just when I was starting to love Blogger again...

Anyway...here are some cool things I did while I was playing with Photoshop tonight - 3 totally different takes on the same original photo.  In this first one, I created a frame using a cracked edge grunge brush, and the Lustrous Pop action from The Coffee Shop (a color/contrast pop action).  The overall effect is rather spooky and scary looking!!

In this second photo, I used the same Photoshop action, but used a less obvious and much less scary frame...which I still created using a grunge brush, just a much calmer one.  I think I may have hit slightly different settings on the brightness and contrast in the Lustrous Pop action, as well, on this one.

Finally, on this third one, you can see a DRASTIC difference!!  In this one, while I used the same grunge frame as in the second photo, the photo looks completely different due to the Photoshop action I applied to the photo.  This time, I used another Coffee Shop action, called Simply Vintage.  You can see that it removes much of the color and gives it an overall glow, lending it an aged-vintage look.

So, I still haven't solved the dilemma of what I'm going to do about a frame around my photos yet...but I am leaning toward the narrow grungy frame on these last two photos.  It actually wasn't that difficult to insert the photo into the frame and/or place the frame over the photo - as long as my photos are the same size as the frame.  But I do have a tendency to crop my photos to odd sizes...which would mean frequently having to change to size of the frames...adding yet another step to this whole process.  So I'm not entirely sold on the idea.

If you have any suggestions, I'd love to hear them!!  I sure wish there was a way I could create something that I could post as a frame in Photobucket or something like that, and then somehow include some CSS code in my blogger code to automatically frame every photo!!!  Anyone know how to do all of THAT?!

Why I haven't posted all week...

My crafting workspace right now (yes, at 20 minutes after midnight, yet again...).

I know it's a terrible cell phone picture, because I'm dog tired and don't have the energy to actually take a camera picture, upload it, edit it, email it to blogger, and then do a post.  So this is what you get.  My craft table looks like this because I am literally working on, oh, I don't know - 8 or 10 different things.  I start one thing, get sidetracked by another idea, need a break and start something else on my to-do list, then remember I have another deadline coming up...yada yada yada.

Let's hope for a very productive crafty weekend so I can post some results-photos soon!  (I still haven't even posted my Inspiration Wednesday pics from last week!  Let's hope I get them up before NEXT Wednesday!)

Blog overhaul using Blogger's new Template Designer

So I was feeling like my blog needed a bit of refreshing now that I'm blogging again, after my break...and was even (duck) considering changing over to another blogland site...but come to find out, Blogger has upped their game - in a BIG way.  I was pleasantly surprised to find out how easy it was, this time, to change the look of my blog - without having to go searching on the web for a new blog design, and then try to tweak it to fit into one of Blogger's limited blog templates.  The choices for layouts were plentiful, and then the detail-tweaking was very user-friendly for non-tech geeks like me...down to width of columns, colors and font choices, etc.  The only things I imported from outside Blogger were the header (www.shabbyblogs.com) and the little titles over the sidebar columns (same site).

So, what do you think?  Like? Love? Hate?  I tried to make it a little more reader-friendly and less-busy.  The one thing I haven't had a chance to do yet is take a look at it in all my browsers - I'm working in Google Chrome right now - so those of you in other browsers, let me know if you have any issues with it!!

OH - and another cool thing Blogger made super easy - adding tabbed pages - you can add up to TEN pages to your blog!!!  I was THRILLED with this added ability, as I've always wanted that ability and had to search high and wide in the past to find a template that created that ability for me.  So check out the two extra pages I've created so far - my Artwork page and my Ciao Sorella page (the tabs are just under the header).

Overall, I give Blogger a BIG thumbs up on this one!  If you are looking to update your Blogger site, go to your Dashboard, then to "Design" and check out the new "Template Designer" for all the new details I've referred to.

Is it possible?

I wonder...is it even possible to re-enter the blogging world after such a long absence??? Will anyone still be around to read what I write? Will anyone even care? LOL Will I keep writing after this one post? So many of my family and friends are now on Facebook (ooooohhh...is that a bad word?) that I seem to keep up with AL-most everyone - but not quite the entire audience I'd like to - there.

And yet...I feel an overwhelming urge to purge onto...well, I can't say paper, really, can I? I guess...purge onto the computer screen...in a way that FB doesn't really allow. My mind is spinning in so many directions these days that I feel completely overwhelmed and I need somewhere to put it down and get it OUT of there so that maybe my mind will slow down just a tiny bit. (Do you feel lucky? You know, to get to be the lucky recipients of my crazy ramblings?)

But where to start? Do I try to somehow quickly sum up the past 6 months of our lives in some sort of succinct way that won't even remotely begin to describe what it's really been like? Seems sort of ridiculous. But if I don't, then how will you know what I'm referring to when I refer to this event or that? So I guess that really leaves me no choice.

So here goes...ready?

Quick...

-My sister and I started our own business...Ciao Sorella...means "Hello Sister" in Italian...located at http://www.ciaosorella.com. So far she's been the one doing most of the business b/c I've been busy with other life issues.

-In January, Mackenzie had her 3rd surgery; 2nd palate repair (I believe the prep for that was my last actual post). It failed. Again. Maybe my frustration with that was, in part, why I quit blogging. Why keep saying the same thing over and over? At any rate, her palate, both hard and soft, are still open. Next surgery probably in January, again.

-In January, I also weaned Makayla, much to her disliking and mine, per my OB's instructions in prep for my own surgery. Long story. She's recovered, I've recovered, but she's still very much a mama's girl.

-My dad came and spent the winter with us (he lives with one of my sisters in New Hampshire, and hates the cold weather). He was here from mid-December through mid-March. The kids LOVED having their grandpa here and were all quite sad to have him go!!!! We expect he'll be back this winter as well. :)

-As most of you know, at last writing, I had been suffering a lot of pelvic pain and issues. Finally, in March, I had a complete and total hysterectomy, ovaries and all. I firmly believe all of my issues were related to the tubal ligation I had following the girls' birth, and I URGE any mama considering tubal ligation as a form of permanent birth control to NOT DO IT!!! There are many long term consequences that the doctors will NOT tell you about which are widely experienced by women who've had the surgery, and there are many women who end up having to either have a tubal reversal (at their own expense) or having to go through a hysterectomy which would otherwise have not been necessary. Fortunately, thanks to bio-identical hormones, I have not had to experience any horrible menopausal symptoms, but did have some grief after the hysterectomy. I can say that I now feel GREAT physically, in terms of all of that - better than I've felt in a LONG time!!!

-My mom came out to help out during and after my surgery, and was a HUGE help during that time. The kids loved having her here right after grandpa left (actually their stays overlapped by a couple days), so they were totally spoiled! I honestly have NO idea how we would have survived without her here. I had a rough recovery the first couple weeks after surgery, and she was wonderful in keeping the kids occupied so I could rest. I look forward to the next time she comes so we can actually do some FUN things together!!!!

-My Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease (hereditary neuropathy), however, has progressed at a rapid rate, and my hands, in particular, have become very, very weak. Typing, in fact, has become difficult (and even as I type this, I am having to correct many mistakes and my fingers are going numb!). I can no longer button clothes without the aide of a buttoner, I have difficulty tying ribbons/laces/etc., doing the girls' hair is getting increasingly difficult, and basically anything involving fine motor skills is hard. I have a hard time writing with a regular pen or pencil (I need thicker ones) and writing anything of any length ends up with me dropping the pen/pencil, and my handwriting has gotten terrible. Also, my muscles have begun spasming a LOT, so I have to now take meds for that as well. As crafting is a big part of my life, it bothers me a great deal. I have a great neurologist who is working closely with me to try to manage the symptoms as best as we can.

-The girls and Anthony are just growing like weeds!!! Anthony is in the 84th% of height/weight for his age, and will be starting homeschooled kindergarten this fall. Mackenzie is still receiving Early Intervention services due to her speech delay, but she is improving all the time. Once she turns 3, her services will be transferred to the local school district. Makayla is speaking in full sentences, though sometimes we're the only ones who can understand her. :) The girls are full on into the "terrible two's" and either love each other to pieces or love to hit each other to pieces!! Anthony's sort of the same with them - he's either the adoring big brother, or the jealous big brother!!

-I have been taking the kids to swim lessons this summer at another mom's house in a homeschooling moms group I joined, and while they are all definitely still beginners, they have at least been introduced to the water and are more comfortable in the water. At the beginning of the summer, Mackenzie spent every session on the edge of the pool screaming and refusing to even get IN the water - so the fact that she now gets in the water on her own will, splashes around, and will allow me to dunk her without crying is HUGE progress!!! Makayla is the one we have to watch carefully, because she has almost NO fear and will just jump off the step right out into the pool to try to "swim" to me, even if I'm not expecting her!!! It doesn't bother her one bit to go under the water!!! Anthony was sort of middle-of-the-road at the beginning of the summer. He wanted to learn to swim, but he didn't want to get his face wet!! LOL He's now willing to jump into the water and go under, and he can float on his back without me holding on, but he's still working on kicking with the kickboard on his own and blowing bubbles out his nose under the water and learning how to move the water with his hands.

-Darrell is doing great, and I adore him for how doting and what a wonderful father, husband and provider he is. He puts in LONG hours at work. This week we are both helping out with Vacation Bible School at our church. I am a small group leader in the Pre-K class (Anthony's class), and Darrell is helping with the big kids' games. The girls are in the 2-3 year olds class, and are always a bit reluctant when being dropped off, but have fun once they are in class. Last night they got to make rain sticks. (The them this year is a rainforest adventure.)

Okay, I think that hits most of the highlights. Next up - my AWESOME weekend this past weekend with Donna Downey. What? You don't know who Donna Downey is????? You, my friend, are SOOOO missing out!!!

WHERE in the world is JEN????

No, I did not fall off the planet. Yes, I am still alive. Mostly.

What I have NOT been doing...
  • blogging
  • crafting (much, anyway)
  • sewing
  • knitting
  • scrapbooking
  • cooking
  • cleaning
What I HAVE been doing...
  • laying down with a hot rice pack on my abdomen
  • taking copious amounts of painkillers
  • doing as little as possible
  • going to the doctor a lot
  • having many medical tests
Apparently, sometime since my tubal ligation, I have developed a case of both endometriosis and adenomyosis, both of which are significantly impeding on my quality of life (and that of my family, I might add!). At this point, my doctor is planning to do a hysterectomy sometime in February or March, after Mackenzie's next surgery, which is scheduled for January 11. Ahh...so much fun in store for us!!!

At least the doctor did give me better drugs at my last appointment, so I HAVE been able to function somewhat better over the past few weeks...so I have been able to get out to do some Christmas shopping and I have slowly been getting back into some crafting and I even stepped on the serger pedal today for the first time in a couple months.

Prayers for pain relief for me, a successful surgery for Mackenzie, and a quick and successful surgery for me would be greatly appreciated...so that I can get back to being the crafty me that I like to be!!!

My apologies!

I'm so sorry...I have so much to update you on...ear infections, monster spray, fun decorations...but, alas, we are heading out the door right this minute for a much needed 3-day trip to Vegas!! My first!!! How can I be 34 years old, and live 4 hours away, and NEVER have been to Vegas??

We'll see how travelling with a 3.5 year old and 11-month old twins goes!! See you soon!

Hip hip hooray!!

A HUGE HUGE thank you to my friend Allison's hubby, Bryan, for fixing the problem in my coding so that my blog looks normal in Internet Explorer now!! I went over to do some crafting today with Allison, and I ever-so-casually (not!) mentioned that there might be a little problem with my blog code. Twenty minutes and a whole lot of techie lingo later, he had it fixed!! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Bryan!!! And, by the way, if your website is in need of some fixing, click on Bryan's name to go to his website...this is what he does for a living, after all!!

All of you IE fans - does everything look good now??

Baby blocks and a tree...and a blog overhaul

I finally finished the last part of the baby shower gift for Darrell's co-worker. I am LOVING this set of three squeezably soft baby blocks!! I adore these Sandi Henderson fabrics, a combination from her Ginger Blossom and Farmer's Market lines. I threw the pacifier in there just to show the size of the blocks. The smallest is a 3-inch cube, and the largest is a 5-inch cube. I have pieces cut to make a second set to put up for sale on my etsy site, whenever I can get a chance to sew them!!

This little tree was just something fun I did for the kids to play with. I keep seeing all these adorable little forest creatures and stuffies all over on etsy and online boutiques...trees, mushrooms, owls, birds, etc. They are just too cute. I found some old felt (and I do mean old - like bought at least 7 years ago!!) in an old craft bin in the garage, so I free-hand drew the tree parts on the felt (with some online inspiration) and cut them out. I used pinking shears to cut out little leaves from some fabric scraps, and stitched them onto the tree. Anthony was so funny...he loved watching the process as I made it, and when it was done, he could hardly contain his glee. "Mama," he exclaimed, "It's SOOOOOO cuuuuute!!!" :) The girls took turns with it today - Mackenzie just holding it and looking at it very intently, and Makayla, of course, eating it. At any rate, I think it was a hit with all 3 kiddos.

And as you can see, I did some overhaulin' here in blogland. I promise you I could NEVER be a computer programmer. I've been sitting here for the past 3 hours or so, figuring out which template to use and then adjusting code to work with what I needed to do...and I swear my eyes are going crossed!! When I started out, I was merely attempting to change the background color on the blog. I liked the old graphics and such, but I just couldn't get used to that funky kind of pink-mauvy color. But as it turns out, it wasn't just a background color in the code; it was an actually picture file repeated all through the blog, and with my VERY limited knowledge and no access to a Photoshop program, there really wasn't anything I could do about that. So I had to start over. So let me know what you think...do you like it? The cool thing with this layout is that I can change the header picture/background without having to change the whole template - yay!!
